Planning Schedule for Project Sunshine (Click to Enlarge)Kamcare wants to make a difference in the quality of life of the people in for example plot 175 Kameeldrift and plot 123 Leeuwfontein (informal settlements in our area).  Plot 175 accommodates 3000 people while plot 123 accommodates roughly 600 people. Infrastructure in these areas are basically non-existent, with no electricity, and only 3 taps for 3000 people at plot 175. We also want to address the conservation of the earth and her scarce resources.   At the end of 2009 Lloyds of London became a partner in accomplishing our dream.

The dream entails the following:

We supply each home with two 15W solar panels. This can create enough energy for a small 11W low wattage compact fluorescent globe (CLG) for 5-6 hours, that would be sufficient to light up a one-room shack. This will enable a family to have sufficient light after the sun sets and thus enable school children to do their home work.  It will also enable the family to charge cellphones, which will in turn make a family more accesible for work opportunities.

At the end of July 2010, 10 houses in plot 175 received solar panel units and are using them effectively.

Two local residents were identified and assisted in installing and maintaning the solar panel units. Our dream is to also train the community members how to make the units and therefore skills transfer can take place.
You can become involved by donating R2500 for a solar panel unit for one house.
